Rakshi Sthan Temple, Karamtola, Sahibganj
Rakshi Sthan Temple is one of the oldest temple of Sahibganj district, where the devotees tie a wish stone to a banyan tree for the fulfillment of their wishes. This temple is located in Mandro block, just west of the Teliagarhi fort, close the Karamtola railway station. This temple is considered very pious by the tribals and non-tribals.

As per the devotees, the worship of Van Devi at Maa Raksi Sthan Temple has been happening since before the Mughal dynasty. In ancient times it was known as Van Devi. Now it is famous as Rakshi Maa.

Rakshi Asthan is the holy place of faith and belief. Any wish of the devotees coming here is fulfilled sooner or later by the grace of Maa Rakshi. This is the reason why its popularity is increasing day by day. Generally people come here everyday to offer prayers. But coming here two days a week on Saturday and Tuesday has its own belief. This is the reason why the number of people who reach here in these two days is in thousands.
Due to the ancient beliefs and the unwavering devotion and faith of the devotees, even today, when their wishes are fulfilled, the devotees offer sacrifices at the feet of the Maa Rakshi. Not only this, the people who reach there also accept the sacrifice offered to the Maa Rakshi as Prasad. Hundreds of sacrifices are performed here during these two days. There was a different view of devotion here on Tuesday as well. The number of worshipers here had become so high that people had to wait for hours for the worship. Here people tie bricks wrapped in red cloth to the Peepal tree for their wishes. There is a belief behind doing this that if the mother’s (Maa Rakshi) eyes fall on the brick tied on the tree, then her wish will be fulfilled soon.

In view of the increasing number of devotees, two rest houses have been built by the district administration at Rakshi Asthan Temple for the devotees to take rest. These rest houses are used by the devotees to sit together, eat prasad and to take rest for a while. Here many people sit under the trees at the foot of the hill with their families to make prasad and also have it.
This place, which is attractive from natural point of view, has also created means of employment for the people living nearby. Here people set up small shops according to their needs. Some sell wood, while many sell laddoos, peda and batasha as prasad. Many small shops of Puja flowers and snacks are also set up. Many vehicles have also started plying from Mirzachowki and Sahibganj for people to reach the Mata temple.

The fame of this temple can be gauged from the fact that on Saturdays and Tuesdays, passenger trains are stopped here by the Railways, so that the devotees going and coming by rail can easily visit to Rakshi Asthan temple.
