“Maa” – more than just a word, it’s an experience. It’s a profound force, unseen and unheard, yet constantly present with us, guiding our every step. On the sacred land of Sahibganj, near the hallowed banks of the Ganges, a wondrous miracle unfolded, birthing a powerful center of divine energy.
The Divine Vision: A Mother’s Command
The story begins with a profound spiritual experience. One night, a devoted bhakta (devotee) received a divine dream. In this celestial vision, Adi Parashakti herself appeared in an aniconic (formless) manifestation. With a clear and resonant voice, the Divine Mother issued a powerful command: “Here, I shall reside in my form as Jagadambika, with my three eyes, nose, and chin. I will be present with my nine shaktis (divine energies) and two female attendants, for eons to come, 365 days a year.”
The Mother’s directive was unequivocal: this sacred ‘peeth’ (divine seat or shrine) was to be established and ready that very night. Overwhelmed by the divine instruction, the devotee, with unwavering faith, carried out the command precisely as given. From that miraculous night onwards, this sacred spot transformed into a Jaagrit Siddhasthan – a vibrant, awakened, and potent center of spiritual power.
Protected by Divine Guardians: Yogini Kali and Nana Roop Bhairav
Since its divine inception, this sacred peeth has been protected by Yogini Kali and Nana Roop Bhairav. This powerful divine duo ensures the sanctity and energy of the shrine. Here, the Mother is revered and worshipped in both her Tantric and Satvik (pure and benevolent) forms, embracing the full spectrum of divine expression and appealing to a diverse range of spiritual practices.
From Secrecy to Miracles: The Awakening of Faith
Initially, the worship of the Mother at this sacred site was conducted behind closed doors, a secret known only to a select few. However, as devotees began to experience her miracles firsthand, the fame of the shrine gradually spread. Tales of her immense power and boundless compassion circulated, drawing more and more seekers to her doorstep.
It is widely believed and faithfully proclaimed that “no one returns empty-handed from Maa’s temple.” Those afflicted by tantric obstacles, troubled by malevolent spirits, or burdened by negativity find profound peace and liberation at her feet. The divine energy here is said to cleanse, heal, and offer solace to all who seek refuge.
Offerings of Love and Devotion: Days of Special Adoration
Specific days hold special significance for devotees. Tuesdays and Saturdays are particularly auspicious, dedicated to Maa’s elaborate shringar (adornment) and special aarti (ritual of light and prayer). Her divine presence is celebrated with heartfelt offerings: a garland of vibrant red hibiscus, fragrant Rajnigandha (tuberose) flowers, and delectable bhog (sacred food offerings) of jaggery kheer (rice pudding) and ripe bananas, all considered profoundly dear to the Mother.
A Confluence of Joy and Blessing: The Ashwin Navratri Maha Pujan
Every year, during the auspicious period of Ashwin Navratri, the peeth transforms into a grand celebration. A Maha Pujan (great worship ceremony) is performed, accompanied by a joyous mela (fair), attracting devotees from far and wide. This is a time of immense spiritual fervor, communal joy, and vibrant festivities.
Newlyweds often visit the shrine to seek Maa’s blessings for a prosperous and harmonious marital life. In every moment of joy, every phase of sorrow, and at the inception of every new beginning, Maa is revered as the foremost deity. It is at her sacred feet, bowing in humble devotion, that life finds its ultimate blessing and purpose.
