Maa Baysi Sthan, situated alongside the river Ganga in Sahibganj, holds great significance as the “Gram Devi” (Village Goddess) of Sahibganj. Maa Baysi is revered as the patron deity, encompassing the entire expanse from Baysi Sthan to Kamaltola, and from Kumhar Patti to Bartalla.

The temple of Baysi Sthan in Sahibganj serves as a spiritual hub, where devotees gather in faith, seeking the fulfillment of their wishes from Maa Baysi. People from distant places visit this sacred site, offering worship to Maa Baysi before commencing various celebratory events, auspicious ceremonies such as weddings, birthdays, and more. Maa Baysi graceously bestows her blessings upon all.

The name “Baysi” refers to the presence of twenty-two goddesses who are worshiped collectively in this sacred place today.

According to legend, Maa Baysi was initially venerated in her abstract form under a Peepal tree at the Baisi Sthan location. In 1948, the stone idol and sanctum of Maa Baysi were established. Back then, the surroundings were adorned with dense forests and abundant mango and blackberry trees. During those days, a Brahmin priest from Ojha Toli diligently conducted worship rituals, visiting Maa Baysi in the evenings with kerosene lamps due to the absence of electricity. He would offer mishri (sugar candy) and almonds to honor the goddess.

After some time, a devout follower (Bhaktin Maa) from Kamal Tola took up the responsibility of serving Maa Baysi. She dutifully cleaned the temple premises and conducted daily rituals.

Following the passing of Bhaktin Maa in 2004, another dedicated follower who had previously assisted Bhaktin Maa in temple maintenance and worship took charge of serving Maa Baysi. To this day, she conducts the morning and evening Aarti (ritual offering of light) to honor Maa Baysi.

A group of Baisi Maa devotees from Purani Sahibganj town formed the first committee for Baisi Sthan. Collaboratively, they raised funds and constructed an impressive temple for Maa Baysi. Every year, the same committee organizes a grand Kali Puja at Baisi Sthan.

It is believed that those who worship Maa Baysi with a sincere heart have their wishes fulfilled by her divine grace.
